Digital Wellness School Program Case Study: Children’s Circle Nursery School

We were hosted at Children's School Nursery School in Van Nuys, California for our first preschool digital wellness program. Since 1975, Children's Circle has implemented a play-based approach and philosophy that centers on attachment theory, emphasizing experiential, hands-on learning in a nurturing environment. The format of the presentation included a parent and teacher education presentation, followed by a community Q&A.

Education

  • Digital Wellness Basics

The material for the youngest learners will focus on the basics of the brain science behind digital wellness and the concept of dopamine. This unit will prepare a TK-2nd grader to understand the connection between dopamine and their feelings, and begin to develop skills to manage their own technology use.

  • Digital Wellness Intermediate

Older learners will build on the material established in the Basics Curriculum and explore how technology relates to mental health and adolescent brain development. 3rd-6th graders will be armed with a full understanding of all basic digital wellness topics and be empowered to build their own healthy relationships with tech.

  • Media Literacy

3rd-6th graders will learn to think critically about online content through understanding how media messages are created to shape reality, learning to navigate search engines and websites, and distinguishing between legitimate news, illegitimate content, and paid advertising.
